moved house - asked for final bill - receive debt collection letter :(
Hello
I recently moved homes. previously i had my gas and electricity supplied by npower. after my move i received 4 gas bills from npower, with each bill showing an upgraded amount as opposed to the previous one.
i called npower up first week of novembr and told them that i wanted to close the account. they asked me for a final reading which i could not provide. instead they said they would send me a final bill based on their estimate and i could then pay up and close my account.
Instead of receiving a final bill, i received a letter from the Collections Direct dated 22 December 2008 at my old address stating that npower has advised of failure to pay the above outstanding debt and has asked us to initiate immediate collection. If you do not wish to have your detals registered with us you must pay npower within 7 days, or contact them on 0845 0750437 , to discuss immeidiate payment, which can be made by direct debit or credit card. the mail redirect and the holidays resulted in the letter being delivered on t he 3rd of january, hence the delay in my action.
i am going to call up npower tomorrow and ask them to close the account asap. if they fail to do that, i will pay up the amount anyway and send a complaint letter to npower aking them to close the account.
what should i do about the collections direct letter. i did a search for this debt collection agency and as per posts on the net, this is a sub-agency of npower. has my squeeky clean credit rating been affected? what actions should i take?
