Mature student funding

Options
Hi
I am looking to study Physiotherapy but as a mature student I will have rent to pay for and other loan repayments. Could I get any funding to help with my rent, council tax etc as I will be studying full time?

Unless you have children or you are disabled, you will not receive any help beyond that of a 'normal' student i.e. student loan/ grant, council tax exemption. Younger students have bills to pay too!
    Gone ... or have I?

Because you will be studying Physiotherapy, you would need to apply for an NHS Bursary. Information on this can be found at http://www.nhsbsa.nhs.uk/students

You can also apply to Student Finance Direct for a reduced rate maintenance loan. There would be no grant entitlement through SFD.

If you are living alone, then you should have your council tax waived as you'll be registered as a full time student. Best to contact your council for this info though.

I am a mature student and get the full maintenance grant and a loan to pay my fees. I also get free council tax - you just need a certificate from your Uni once you start the course. You will be entitled to cheaper bus and rail travel passes and an interest free overdraft same as any other student.

As a mature student you may find you are better off than the average 18 year old - you know more about managing your money, and you have work experience under your belt. I get money from Mr. Fire Fox towards the bills but would have let my main bedroom and squeezed in the boxroom has he not decided to move in.

TBH I find I am pretty well off - I bring in £12000 in total, all of which is tax-free. You should probably clear as much debt as you can before you start the course tho. Try the Debt-free Wannabe board for loads of ideas.
