Low virtual memory

My PC is telling me that my sytem is low on virtual memory and that Windows is increasing it. "Virtual memory minimum is too low".

Can anyone explain this to me as I haven't a clue what's happening?

  • this happens when you are short on RAM. Windows will reserve some hard disk space to use as ram (virtual memory). perfectly normal and it should settle down once it finds a balance.

Your physical RAM (Random Access Memory) which is what the computer uses to run programs such as your Windows operating system in, is used up and you should be looking at upgrading your RAM at some point or you will experience perfromance issues, find your local computer shop and they will advise you on the best way forward.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Have you installed anything new recently which might be causing the extra RAM usage?

    OR...as a starting point.....

go to Control Panel, System, Advanced tab, click the Performance Settings box, Advanced tab, and click the Virtual Memory Change button.....ensure the option is checked to allow the System to set it's own level, and OK out of everything..

This should get over the initial hump of the VM error box, but also as t'others above have said, seriously consider upping your RAM

Thanks for all the help. I'll follow the advice given. I've not installed anything at all recently but my PC is old so maybe it's starting to say goodbye to me!
