Excellent.. just what I was looking for.. I have a family of 10 and regularly cook for 12+ when we have friends and GF's and whatevers round..

I'm off to count my shrapnel!

Glad to be of assistance - bear in mind there may be a new version of the Major (I think Heston uses one) and some come with the mince / sausage maker and some don't so it's worth looking at the extras you get included.

I've got the patissier as all I use it for is mixing cake batter, meringues and the odd pastry or dough and I really couldn't afford one of the big ones (my nan had an ancient kenwood until recently that was about 30 years old or so! my mum has the gorgeous all singing all dancing titanium) and I like the retro styling, I find it really good for what I need it for. I bought it for £79 inc delivery from ebay as the box was damaged, I also got a brand new magimix 4200 xl from ebay for £50 as the pulse button didn't work - my handy dp fixed that in about 5 mins! (family of 8)

I really like the versatility of the big kenwoods though, I love the fact that you can make ice cream with them, fix on all the attatchment etc, one day....

I only make cakes, meringues, pastryetc and also have the patissier.
I love it as it looks so retro and I leave it on permanent display in the Kitchen.
Because it is always out I think I do a lot more baking. It is very big and heavy.

All in all highly recommend the Chef / Major - have looked on your local Freecyle as they sometimes come up for free (an old one) that you could use to get the hang of it till you can afford a brand spanker?

That's what I did - it took a while to get one via freecycle, but I did it in the end and it cost me nothing :-)

It's not a shiny silvery bright one - in fact it's white and sort-of-orangey, and certainly doesn't look nearly as impressive as the snazzy ones - but it does the job...and it cost me nothing :-D

I am exactly the same, if it is out i'll use it! My utlity (futility!) room is not right off my kitchen, I have to go through the playroom first which means i'm often put off getting an item out of there as i'll disturb the happily playing kids and be followed round for the rest of the afternoon, lol!

Which colour do you have, I have the red one and cannot believe the price of it on amazon!

I got my 40 year old Kenwood Chef for £15 when I saw it advertised in a local paper. It was being sold because the man's wife had passed away and he didn't have any use for it.

It's older than the one my mum's got, but still in fine working order. My only problem is that I don't use it often enough just now......

If you got one of this type though you'd have enough change to get some attachments to go with it. I got one of these, a slicer attachment. It's for slicing veg/salad and grating.

I ordered the KM336 from Amazon and am expecting it to be delivered today. As the attachments are quite expensive, I have been looking at what is available on ebay. I have looked at every post about Kenwoods on MSE and I still can't understand which if any of the older attachments will fit this model. Does anyone know of a compatibility chart?

I have the following information from various posts. 700 does not fit 900 and vice versa. 7XX or A7XX is for A701 model. 9 series fits KM, A9XX and A701A. Anyone know if this is right?

Would attachments for the A701A fit the newer KM machines? Does this mean that the A701 was different to the A701A?

I've never had a Kenwood before so know nothing about them.

meadowcat, check my previous post (no.7) ;)
The 701 fitting isn't the same as on the newer models unfortunately - or cleverly for Kenwood. It means you have to buy the newer attachments.

I was thinking of investing in a kenwood chef and wondered what your thoughts are? As they are quite expensive i wanted to make sure it was a worthwhile purchase.
What do you use yours for and would you recommend any particular model?
    thanks:beer:
