Allegedly Makro has 1tb drives for £70 - may not include VAT though.

    Mill,

Do not worry... I do back-up, just did not post that as not really a topic of discussion here... ;)

It's really how far you want to go down, like my camera when out taking piccies I use 2gb cards unlike my mate who uses 4gb and lost a whole days airshow once because his card was dropped on concrete and corrupted.. If he had used two 2gb's at least 1/2 would have been saved... That's my theory anyway, but then you could go to 4 x 1gb and so on... :D

Personally, I back up my photographs to an external hard drive and the ones I really want (like wedding) are also on a disc too and safely stored away in the house, just hope teh house does not burn down! :D

I get your point though also and agree.... ;)

Ok, I see what you mean now.:D

    Order online and pick-up in-store.. ;)

If you find it cheaper elsewhere online, print ot out and take instore also and try it on... Worth a go and nothing to lose, if not, just buy your reserved one!

    :j

I did this with the Amazon advert, but PCW would not match to Amazon, said they did not do that any more, so produced the reserve email and got it. Only just over £1 but worth a try.

    Thanks guys

    I really like WD drives

The MyBook spins down when not in use and turns on/off with your PC

Get a mybook if you will be using it a lot

Get an Elements if it is just for occasional storage/backup

If you've got Firewire on your desktop computer, you are restricting your use if you buy an external hard drive which is USB2 only.

(Particularly if your desktop is a Mac, which has additional functionality - for example, "Target mode" - with Firewire external drives.)

You're also restricting your future use of the external drive if it hasn't got eSATA and/or Firewire 800 ports as well as USB2.

Could you explain what you mean here? I understand the many problems with usb (slow speeds, low power, heavy on cpu during transfer) but it's by far the most popular and wide-spread option, and i don't see it going anywhere soon
This is, however, why my next drive will be internal sata drive.
    cheers

Try to think of it in terms of languages.

A man (or woman, or child) who can hold the same conversation in three or four different languages is greatly more flexible and has greatly more options than someone who can speak only English.

A hard drive stores data: the enclosure in which it is housed dictates to what other devices that data can be made available.

I'd never recommend to anybody buying an external hard drive that doesn't have USB2 ports but if it also has Firewire and eSATA ports one would always prefer to use those, instead of USB2, with devices that support them.

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.
