Tesco Direct

Hi
I bought a "cushion box" from Tesco direct online as part of my sons xmas present. Costing £60
When he came to assemble it there were pieces missing so he tried to exchange it but his local Tesco werent having it.

My son lives a two hour drove from me so I contacted CS for advice hoping that he could just do a straight swop at a local TD store. They said it would be impossible as I am the card holder and that I would have to take it back and sort it out. I asked to speak to a manager at CS about this as I live 2 hrs away from my son and this cushion box! The CS manager was not at all helpful and told me that I would have to get the item transported back to me because I am the cardholder - return it to store for a refund and reorder it. There would then be an overlap of a few days when I would have paid for two Cusion boxes!!

I am not happy with this and cannot see why they cant just swop this at the Tesco direct desk as the item is faulty and not fit for purpose.

Surely this isnt the right way to go about getting a replacement for faulty goods?
I would appreciate your comments

Tesco are right on this one. It's up to the person who bought the gift to sort out any problems if it is faulty rather than the recepient of the gift.

I can see why it seems harsh though considering the distance between you and your son.
Here I go again on my own....

I agree that the person who purchased the gift should sort it out. However i cannot see why this Box has to be returned to store by me when they could just do a straight swop with my authorisation at a local Direct store to my son.
I now have the problem of getting the box back to me.....
