Meter Change

Hi All

We use Atlantic Electricity but yesterday we received a letter from e-on to say that our meter may be unsafe and urgently needs to be replaced. It says the lifespan of a meter is 10 years and after this time it may be unsafe or inaccurate. We will not be charged for this work and they have given us a phone number to arrange a convienient time.
Don't mind having a new meter - but why would e-on be doing this - and not our own supplier?

E-on comprises many companies one of which is a Meter Operator so you will probably find the letter is from that division and not as a supplier.

Hi beedeedee, As you say EoN are doing the work do you live in the East Midlands somewhere. EoN are the group responsible for supply for that area, they used to be Powergen and possibly before that East Midlands electricity board.
I have recently received a similar letter to you, although my meter is 17 years old!! I pay npower for my electricity, but they and in your case Atlantic are not responsible for the meters, or even for getting the electricity to your house.
As an aside I am using this meter change as an opportunity to change from Economy 7 to a standard single rate meter.
  • I believe that meter changes are usually done by the Regional Electricity Distributor as the meters belong to them, rather tham tne electricity supplier.

Take a note of the readings on the meter removed & the one installed.Paperwork or flows have a habit of getting lost between meter operator & Supplier or they used to. System may be better these days.

They should leave a yellow sticker on the new meter with that info, well they should anyway.

I'll take readings before and after - and then check the bills....
    Cheers all.
