Insurance cover for key broken in front door lock

Hi,
The lock on my front door was faulty and it prevented me from getting in a couple of weeks ago. It was 2am and I ended up having to call a locksmith to help me out. He drilled through the lock and managed to get me in. He said my lock was probably faulty and replaced it. It took just under 1 hour and I was charged £200 for the privilege. (Something I could have done without just before Christmas!). The locksmith said I would be able to claim back from my home contents insurance provider, and said he would put on the report that the problem was due to the key breaking in the lock.
I contacted both my contents and buildings insurers and both said I wasn't covered because, unbeknown to me, I didn't have accident cover.
Does anybody know if I can claim the money back from some other means? I know some bank accounts provide cover for things like that but mine doesn't
Thanks very much.
Trisha

Well if you have an insurance against it, you can claim it back, if you haven't then no. Unfortunately I don't know what insurances you have.
Ultimately, you have obviously taken a lower priced home insurance (as many of us do) and some of the extras, like accidental damage cover, aren't included.
It's like car insurance. TPFT is cheaper, but if you end up damaging your car the repairs are likely to be more than the difference between TPFT and fully comp insurance.
You pays ya money, you takes ya choice!0
