Total, thanks. I'll have a double check in the morning, but think the one I need is £19.99. If it is, by far cheaper than DVD recorder:T

the reviews on Amazon are not good for this. I was going to buy one a couple of weeks ago but a few bad reviews of it not working, freezing pc etc put me off.

if you find it let me know as I've a load of VHS tapes I want to put on DVD. I did hope that there would be a lead I could just attach to my VHS player and PC and copy using Nero but I can't find one. Perhaps I should record the tapes on my camcorder as I can firewire them to my pc:D

If it's a dvd recorder you have then yes that's all you need, if you're stuck you could post the model number so someone can give you more info.

hOW DO I KNOW IF IT IS A DVD RECORDER??

and what do i do now?

I used something similar when transfering 8mm tapes - a USB dongle and leads - I'd point you at it but seems to have been discontinued - but I had no issues with PC hanging etc

But you can't really go wrong with a belkin one HERE including reviews

edit: actual one I used withou any PC crashing was this one

That's a dvd player you have so you can't use that to record onto dvd although you can use it to play the videos and connect this to a dvd recorder to make the dvd's.

You will need to either buy or borrow a dvd recorder though, something like this one here

I didn't want to start a new thread, but wondered if anyone could help.

I was chatting to someone and they said this could be done connecting camcorder to laptop.

I have a Toshiba laptop running Vista Basic, a Hitachi X 500 camcorder which says digital, but it is about 10/12yrs old. It is working much to my surprise!
But I'm not sure how it could be connected.

    Any advice would be useful.

    Thanks
