CPS - What do PrimusSaver (or others) tell BT?

I wonder if anyone can help. I am organising my parents and want to take advantage of lower call charges by using PrimusSaver which we understand is a CPS and no long term contract. Question is, how do PrimusSaver contact BT and what paperwork is involved? Would it matter that the CPS (PrimusSaver) would be in a different name to the BT line and would PrimusSaver actually tell BT this? I am just looking to be able to keep control over it as they are hopeless at keeping track of things like this and living nowhere near it would be helpful if I could get it organised for them remotely.

Many thanks

  • Ok, can't answer all your query, but Primus or others don't get in touch with BT, there is no need. If your using other services other than BT for your phone calls, you are only responsible to BT for paying the line rental & any extras you have with them.

As for signing up with Primus, you need an Orchid Dialler (see threads on this forum relating to Orchid Diallers). There is no paperwork to complete, it's all done online.

I rekon you will get more indepth advice from others on this forum.

Sorry but this is NOT so.
I use primus and definitely do NOT have an orchid dialler.
I just signed up via the web site, confirmed over the phone and have never had any problems since.:T

maybe their are two ways that Primus do their cps?

I don't think there would a problem with the names being different - it's just based on the phone number.

We had broadband (via the BT phone line) from Tiscali in my flat mate's name and my name on the BT phone bill and no questions were ever asked!

You definitely dont need an Orchid Dialler if you want to CPS your calls to anybody. All the dialer does is route your calls as you wish, and avoids you having to remember to dial short codes.

If you CPS your calls they will automatically go via your chosen call supplier.

You cant CPS someone elses calls it must be the BT Account holder otherwise naturally BT want entertain the request.

So your saying anyone could move/slam the calls to another supplier without getting the account holders authority. I think not.;)

What you could do Anon is to open an a/c with www.18185.co.uk and register their number and encourage them to dial 18185 before each call.
  • If anon wants to use different services such as Primus & 18185, it's much easier to invest in a dialler.

If you want to use 18185 with either just BT or with BT and Primus, then yes it maybe easier (I'm too tight with money to buy the box and simply get everyone to dial the code).

If you don't want or use 18185, 18866 or 1899 and just want Primus, then you DON'T use a dialler box as with CPS the calls are AUTOMATICALLY routed at the exchange.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!

be aware that primus will try and get you to move your line rental from BT ,but you dont have to move it .Primus call centres are no longer UK based .As for using a different name ,give primus the name on the BT account for the change over .
Primus bills are via email so use your own email address for that .Primus and BT will let you look after a parents account but they need permission usually given over the phone .It means you can phone to query the bill .
My mum has free E&W calls from BT .The bill is emailed to me ,it says on the bill "mum ",so they no I deal with the account if I phone them .
If you want to use www.18185.co.uk or another providor then keep your line rental with BT , providors can block override numbers if they receive your line rental .BT are not allowed to block override numbers .

Thank you for the replies - I forgot to mention that I already have 18185 on their line (and a dialer) - the problem is getting them to make the dialer call home to pick up any changes to the plan. I thought getting them onto Primus as well may do the trick at least for the evenings (weekends are free on BT if I can get the dialler updated - a visit to them may be due!).

Are Primus paid by DD or credit card (assuming that there is anything to pay)? Do any free evening/weekend call packages work by shortdial code rather than CPS (Onetel used to in the old days before being taken over by TalkTalk).

    Many thanks

if they are on free weekend calls from BT ,they can get free evening & weekend calls from BT ,its a 12 month rolling contract .
My mum has this ,the bills are sent via email to me ,(bill still in her name ) so I can keep an eye on things .
Primus are paid by DD ,bills are free online ,if you want a paper bill you pay.

Primus calls are free from 6pm to 8am
BT calls are free from 6pm to 6am.
To continue using 18185 keep the line rental with BT
