Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum and wondered if anyone can help..
I am about to bid on a car at the auction and when I have researched the car on the internet I have realised there is no log book and no car tax either!!
does anyone know what documents u get when u buy a car from auction and if there is any way of taxing it without if not??

you might get the new keeper supplement but if not you'll havfe to apply for a new log book from dvla which is aroung the 25 quid mark with a letter stating where it was purchased and include a photocopy of the reciept from auction, its often the case at auction that theres no taxSealed pot challenger # 10

Not quite true..when you fill in a new V5 application there is a box on the form that you can tick to say that you never received the Reg document from the previous owner, thus will not have to pay to get a replacement. I did this only last month after a call to the DVLA about a car I bought at auction myself. However I would still send a letter and a copy of the purchase receipt too.
As for roadtax it's very unusual for the tax to be included in the sale as many traders take the disc off and get a refund.0 -
thanks for that, do you think i will have to sorn the car till then? Do u know how long the v5 takes?0

Depends how the car was announced as it was in the ring...
If it was sold "No V5" then you have to apply for a new one in your name, costing you about 25 quid. The auction hosue may do this for you - for a charge of course...
If, when the car entered the ring it was "No V5, passed to trade" then you can register the car at a LVLO...0 -
Not a great idea buying a car without seeing the V5 first.0

From an auction you never get to see the V5 as it's attatched to the Entry Form.
The auctioneer will tell you how many owners it has in the middle of taking bids from you, the wall, the lights, then you again lol0 -

I would agree with this comment, if not seeing it and least know it's with the car.Mortgage free
