MBNA - Pls Tell Me SOMEONE Has Been Able To Make Arrangements With Them!

Options
Ive been reading som eoldish thread on the boards regards to people who have tried to make arrangements with MBNA and Im really scared at what Im reading.

Threats of ballifs (SP) nastry people on the phone all the time, has anyone ever been able to make an arrangement with them either on their own or via the cccs?

What would happen if they wont accept my offer put to them via the cccs?

Im really worried now - should i try and carry on paying this one in full and just make arrangements for all the others?

Help

  • hi there pixie 1.
dont be disheartened about what you have read, i too have a account with the mbna owing them just over £4000.00, i was also dreading phoning them but i managed to pluck up the courage and did the deed. i told tham i was having difficulty in paying the payments each month due to having other credit cards, being on maternity leave for 6 months and deciding that i was going back to work part time. They couldnt of been any more help, they froze all charges and intrest and set a affordable amount each month to pay back. it will take approx 5 years to pay off but if their is any spare money at the end of the month i said that i would pay it off this card has its the biggest one that i have.

as i said they were fine and will review the situation in 12 months.
i did this off my own back just for my peace of mind, but you dont know how they will be if you dont phone.!

No, treat them like everyone else. They can be reasonable but more usually are total g1ts. If they get heavy just keep repeating the same offer, keep sending that offer along with your income/expenditure details. They might (will) threaten court. Just tell them thats ok as you will get the same deal accepted by the court. Don't give up with them, don't feel guilty.

  • I have had funny time with MBNA they were obnoxious at first then 2 weeks ago a perfectly pleasant man rang and told me there were going to issue a default and then they would sell the debt on- I said great couldn't be happier hated MBNA. Anyway he asked me to explain why I did (see previous posts) he seem genuine was apologetic I didn't really want to talk to him anymore so ended the conversation but he said they would ring one more time in february and offer me a full and final if I refused it would be sold on. Anyway yesterday I got home and there was letter from mbna (on Alliance & Leicester headed paper eventhough my card is Virgin) offering a full and final knocking 45% off what I owe. I am hoping to take this up I only ran into trouble with them in October 2005.

By the way this guy told me because they are an american bank they will only accept a minimum of 2% on your balance for a DMP ie your owe £1000 they will only accept £20 minimum - sorry if I have gone on here so much has happened it is hard to make it short and concise what I am basically saying is with MBNA if you are firm and stick to your guns they do give up and sell on quickly or better offer you a full and final but you must BE FIRM WITH THEM

I helped my friend sort out some full and final settlements a few months ago, MBNA were one of the easiest to deal with, they accepted the first offer which was about 40% of the debt. (It wasn't a DMP offer)

  • MBNA are probably the worse creditor in terms of harrassment and chasing people even when they have seen financial statements and been offered a realistic payments.

Sooner they pass it on the better!!
  • agreed, they are always hassling us, even though we have an agreement set up with them, to do another SOA and pay more. We had an agreement with them to pay £80.00 a month (interest frozen, they have started to put interest on again so it's back on the phone on Monday

i've made an arrangement through payplan.. and they haven't contacted me in 18months they did pass it to a co. called link financial who are much easier to deal with but they don't call me either as i've been paying via payplan all this time.. it's possible and the majority of letters say "we may" not that they will

MBNA always say they will pass it to their legal department - two years ago they didnt have one and i strongly suspect they still dont.

stick to your guns make the offer you can afford and start paying it. ignore them and report them to the Office of Fair trading for breach of the debt collection guidance.

if enough people report them the OFT can take away their credit licence unless they behave.
