MBNA: accepted or not?

Hi, I just applied for an MBNA card online. The rate was quoted as 16.9% typical.

After the usual first few pages - personal details, income, etc. it came up with "we will be pleased to offer you a card at 23.9%" (or something v similar).

I had to tick the electronic signature box and tell them I don't want PPI. The next page came up and said "we will get back to you within 7-10 days"

Does this sound like I have been accepted or not?

I say you have been accepted pending confirmation of your identity etc

Cheers, I'd guess the same, and I am hoping that is the case!

I applied for the card expecting to be rejected, so was surprised when it came up with "accepted" at the top - that page sounded like it was a done deal, but the final page was more like one of the "don't call us, we'll call you" pages...

I'll have to see what the postie brings this month!
  • It means they are going to phone you up and harass you until you take their ppi. Do not know your personal circumstances but MBNA are complete shysters. They will let you run up the credit card then up your APR to 34.9 ish percent. Be very careful with them they are one up from loan sharks.
  • I had a similar thing with MBNA, they wrote asking for some proof of income etc which I returned. They then issued the card within a few days.
  • I would take note of overlanders warning MBNA are not helpful if your circumstances change and you need help put it this way I had 4 credit cards 3 of them accepted 0% interest while I was in trouble MBNA just upped the interest and keep pillling it on top just a warning to be very careful
Make £5 a day in May total so far £2

No, it turns out my application was not successful!

At least they gave more information than any other lender has before... they feel my current borrowing is sufficient for my income! I didn't agree, as my current borrowing is about a third of my annual salary - that doesn't seem particularly high... they did also say that my current borrowing is close to it's maximum, which is more true - I have a £12K loan (£12K limit) but all my credit cards are considerably under credit limit.

Aah well, I'll give it another go in 6 months when I've cleared a bit off that loan.

What I don't understand is why the application said "we would be pleased to offer you a card at xxx% APR" during the application when they weren't.

I think their computer could not approve you for the card you applied but "thought" you might qualify for their standard card (with higher APR). Capital One also do this to some people who apply for their Platinum card.
