jentiggy - if we can work out your electric usage for night and day, if the night usage is less than about 25%, then you'd definitely save some more by switching to a single rate meter and tarriff (the meter change, if any, shouldn't cost you anything).0

My parents have had a chest freezer (and an upright, pantry/larder-sized one) in their garage for years, although I think I got the upright one when I got my own house.amcluesent wrote: »>freezer x 2 (1 small table top in the shed)<
IIRC, freezers not designed for outside use can go haywire when the air temperature is low...it's been cold at night.0 -

Yes, but many freezers are now not designed for use in unheated areas...0 -
Well that one is rated at 1.8kW although it does state that it has three heat settings. Say these are 600W, 1200W and 1800W, even having it on the lowest setting for 14 hours it would consume 8.4kWh per day. On the 1200W setting it would obviously consume 16.8kWh per day.
Ours has 3 settings as well but we only have it on the lowest. Will have to turn it off a bit more
Errrr...come back later

I'm just about to have my meter changed from two rate to a single rate. It is costing me £61

Surely that's a good thing, not a bad thing? Bad for you in the short term, but good in the long term. Or would you really rather pay higher bills year-in year-out so other people can change their meters willy-nilly? 0 -

Not true, all meters register in real time. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Where can I get a monitor and do you have to buy them or is anyone giving them away?
I had a quick look to see if anyone had asked this already and couldn't see anything. So apologies if this is a repeat.0 -
Update on Horrendous Electricity Bill.
Siemens finally arrived (after previous no show) to fit an additional meter to shadow for 2 weeks to compare.
Meter was installed at 5pm today. In the two hours our meter showed a difference of 8.26 KW and the new meter showed a difference of 3.06.
I am so relieved that the meter readings are different!0
