Help with comms to/from printer/pc

For some reason I cannot print anything from my PC. I'm not too bad 'techy wise' but I'm a bit stuck. I've totally wiped my printer and reinstalled it, I've bought new usb cables incase one was faulty, I've plugged it into every port but still no luck. I have a HP Photosmart C3180 which I normally put my camera memory card into and my photos transfer straight to my PC. I can't print any word doc or from notepad either.
