Finepix S5500 only 114.99 10x optical/4.0m pixels

I have just been to boots and picked up a Fugifilm Finepix S5500 with 4.0 m pixels and 10x optical zoom for 114.99 reduced from 229.00.

It was on a managers special in store and i cant find it on the boots web site so it may be a end of line thing.

This camera is selling at 219.02 used on amazon at the moment.

Does anyone have this camara and are they any good??

Note this doesn't have image stabilisation so it will be very hard to get longer shots without camera shake turning them fuzzy. You really need 400mm (35mm equiv) to really capture more opportunities on safari. If you want a quality point and shoot this is a great camera but it needs to be steady. The Panasonic range, FZ3, FZ20, FZ300 are excellent and DO have image stabilisation, but obviously cost more that this one.
  • Do not worry about camera shake as this model does not suffer to badly,I use it with a Fuji teleconvertor lens and still have very little problem with blurry images, I paid full price for this about 1 year ago, if you have the chance to go for this camera at £114.99 :D take it as it is a fantastic piece of kit. :j

Depends on how much light you have - standard 'formula' for those of you not broken down by age and sex (LOL) is that you should be able to get a decent piccie if the shutter speed is the reciprocal of the focal length - eg 1/400 at 380mm (1/100 at 100mm etc).

I do like Fuji's (have had enough of them to be confident) - personally would prefer the S9500, but for £120 I wouldn't complain.

This model has now been superseded by the S5600, but if you are not bothered by having the latest model, it's a good camera at a cracking price.

  • Which store did you get it from, did they have more than one? I've been after one of those cameras for over a year now, but could never justify the cost. Sounds like you get a brilliant bargain! I am so jealous :)

    Hi,

Just thought I would add that this is a bargain! I paid £250 for this camera a year ago and have been so impressed with it.

I have used the 10x zoom in zoos etc and the pictures have been amazing quality, never had any problems with camera shake.

I've got the updated version and I to have not had any problem with camera shake on long shots. Bargain price IMO.
