Desktop icons disappeared!

A friend of mine uses vista and just informed me that all his icons on desktop has disappeared. He now has to go through Start button to click any application on his laptop.
I promised to help him out because he thinks am tech savvy not knowing that I have got my source in MSE. (I have just helped him clear trojans with MBAM and CCleaner.He respects me more these days)
So my tech people do no not dissapoint me

Youve JUST cleared trojans?

right click anywhere on desktop. Go to" arrange icons", then on to " show desktop icons". Hope this helps.0
