Crittall Windows Ltd - getting delisted, is it possible?
There are still a few companies supplying steel windows in the original F7d section which is the one with the narrow sightlines. The alternative is to have the existing repaired / upgraded. If the window was fit prior to around the mid 1950s the it is unlikelt to be galvanised and therefore will by now be showing signs of rust. These can be repaired but a proper repair would involve remove/sandblast and galvanize and refix. Those in not too bad condition could be repaired by welding in galvanized section to replace rusted section usually at the bottom. Windows already galvanised can be repaired/upgraded with new fittings, glass ease and adjusted and draught proofed. As with any window type there are always shortfalls, upvc were supposed to be maintenance free but the seem to suffer with inadequate fixing and fittings and dgu steaming up every where. What you dont get is narrow sightlines and a look that stays within the character or the building. www.windowfitters.co.uk can help with offering a cheaper alternative to replacements and help keep you crittall windows in a useable condition
