Thanks Gordon, having just retired I have seen the return on my savings drop by 75% in the last 4 months. The sooner this shower of **** are booted out the betterLiquidity is when you look at your investment portfolio and **** your pants0

OK So BoE have taken the rate down by another 0.5%. Savers get screwed, borrowers aren't picking up the rewards, so who is benefiting?
I just don't get the strategy.
It's as if the motor industry has just been told they are not allowed to make more than £100 a car. So they look at their books and decide that they won't make so many cars, because they'll lose money on them.
So, good news for car buyers, cars have never been so cheap, bad news for car buyers, you can't get hold of one. Reaction from the regulators? I know let's restrict the profit per car to £50, that'll sort out the problem.
What's in it for lenders, if they can't charge anything for lending?0 -

I don't think many people are capable of living within their means - especially younger people.
The mentality is "I want it all and I want it now" and why shouldn't I have it when other people have - instant gratification? It's crazy, people need to get back to actually saving for things they want rather than sticking it on a credit card - I am sure they would appreciate it more.
I always did that. I dont believe in credit cards. My one major purchase was a computer about 14 years ago. I took it from my savings and paid my savings back. I do the same for my football season ticket every year with a chart to cross off.I used to know a lad at 6th form who at 16 had a tv and video and stereo etc in his room etc (his dad was an opera singer) which was unheard of in those days and I always used to say what has he got to look forward to having when he starts to earn.
To my mind if you want something you save for it like you did in the old days. Having said that I am not a very materialistic person, I don't need to drive as I live in London and I don't have kids or the need for a mortgage etc as there is just me so I don't need a house.
I am dsigusted with the way that savers are being treated. It is not us that got the country in this mess but people spending more than they can afford and borrowing more than they can pay back. When I opened my ISA it was one of the best rates at 4.75%. I dread to think what it will be now - I think last time I put money in it was about 2.(I was the only one actually putting money into the building society and quite a lot of it to due to holiday pay, tax refund and cash from my current account.) The whole reason I have an ISA is that I was told I would not get a full state pension many years ago so now I have to penny pinch even if I was to ean £500k in my next job so I can actually live after retirement. What Would Bill Buchanan Do?0 -
About 14 years ago I saw an offer for a free computer like a credit card in reverse. You paid up front and claimed back the money 5 years later, there was no reminder just an address to petition 5 years after purchase for your money back it was backed by insurance scheme, etc0
