A question about BFPO

Options
Sorry to appear thick but I have a question about using BFPO - being a civilian I don't know much about this service.

I know someone who works in the FO who has recently been posted overseas and she has given me a BFPO address to use to send things to her. Now I have recently sent a 'welcome to your new home' card which I have sent to the BFPO address complere with first class stamp - how long will it take to get to where she is posted? It is as quick as using the regular UK mail or is it slower?

Does post sent this way ever get censored - not that I want to send her anything rude I hasten to add.

It takes a little longer, the BFPO addressed mail gets delivered to the BFPO depot in the UK, where they sort and forward it to the relevant BFPO location whereever it might be in the world. So it will be slower but in my experiences usually a few days longer - I tended to allow a week for delivery.
Post wont get censored but sending parcels and packages will be checked for certain BFPO codes to stop and contraband or illegal items getting in (ie alcohol to Op Tour locations).
It’s not worth doing something unless someone, somewhere, would much rather you weren’t doing it.

Scubaangel - thanks for that, I won't be sending any contraband to her - just the occasional card or letter. Anyway my 'welcome to your new home' card will be a nice surprise:D

Im sure she'll appreciate it, I have to say the BFPO system is an absolute godsend and despite the bashing it can get for being slow or losing odd things I reckon its probably more reliable than the Post Office overall.
