Audio Description

Many people know about subtitles for folk with hearing impairments but audio description for visually impaired people doesn't get as much advertising. Audio description is an extra audio commentary for blind or partially sighted people. When there is a gap in the dialogue, on some TV programmes, an extra voice jumps in to explain anything visual going on so that visually impaired people can follow the plot.
Many people already have the right sort of television to receive audio description, at no charge.
So for those of you who want to know more here's a couple of useful links:

What surprises me is that when I go to the cinema and say "Is there an induction loop in this screen?" the answer seems to be to get me the headphones for audio description, which I don't need.
Perhaps because this is a newer system the cinemas are concentrating on making sure their staff are aware of it, and forgetting about the basic loop for hearing aid users.
BTW, you might think that there would be an induction loop in ALL screens, but you'd be wrong, and in some screens only some of the seats are included in the loop.Signature removed for peace of mind0
