As a bank customer you have the right to decide where your money goes from an account. This is known as 'First Right of Appropriation'. This is a useful short term fix for people experiencing difficulties with their bank. Basically you write them a letter stating what you want your money to be used for before it it used for debts of anything else. They can't then take your money for their purposes until you've used the money for your purposes.

i closed my currant account with the halifax and set up a new DD with my new bank for the loan payment but kept my savings account at the halifax They took the money out for a personnal loan i have with them my payments should be £240 amonth but they have been taking £400 i am sorry if you are confused imagin how i feel

Your loan probably incorporated an agreement that they were to take the fund from your Halifax account, that would be normal.
You should have set a SO up to pay the money from your new bank to your Halifax account each month before the DD was due.0
