I'm still in the "must have" mindset because I really want something nice to keep my washing up liquid etc in. Something like this: http://www.johnlewis.com/Home+and+Garden/Laundry+Room/++Ironing/+Containers+/230207805/Product.aspx
Can anyone suggest something that doesn't cost £12 which will make my worktop look nicer?

Its cast iron will last forever and looks really nice. I would go for it think about how many years use you will get out of it.0

I just use an old storage jar that is see through and has a nice lid. Did not really cost anything as I have had it for years.
Unless everything else in your kitchen is identical to the container shown then it will cost a fortune to buy a load of matching kitchen stuff.
The motto in one money saving book was "Do not buy the china chicken" (to keep eggs in) as it is a "want " and not a "need"."This site is addictive!"

Oh I know it's a "want" not a need. It's just really irritating me seeing these ugly bottles and brushes and cloths etc on my worksurface. My 15 month old son is too fond of opening the cupboard under the sink so the stuff needs to be up high and out of his reach. I'm not into "matching" stuff although most of my kitchen has things of a similar style/ilk so I wouldn't feel the need to buy the rest of the set.Lightbulb moment: 2nd January 2006

Oh I'm not going to buy it - am in too much debt. Maybe I'll ask for it for a birthday present...... (not till September, but it would be nice:))Lightbulb moment: 2nd January 2006

If you look on ebay in the food storage category, they have some really nice things. Some tins and enamel things - lots on auction or buy it now. Some seem very expensive to me, but with a bit of a hunt you could probably find a bargain.:happyhear0

I really wish you hadn't started this thread!
I clicked the link to see what you were talking about, and fell in love with the housekeepers box for cleaning items. The theory is if it is all in a nice box, i might use it all more often...
Have been after one for a bit, and now I know where to get them!
Thankfully, I only have til March to wait for my birthday.

What about local car boot sales or flea markets? You might find something there?0

I second having a look in Matalan. We do have some of that type of stuff (not from John Lewis though) and have found stuff in Matalan that goes well with it for a pretty good price.0
