The British have a history of muddling through.
My own view would be that we will end up paying a percentage of these massive debts off with our present assets .Especially the value of pension funds and Bricks and mortar...
I'm still convinced the rest will be paid off (lost) with inflation .
I know everyone is going to tell me that inflation is the last thing on the horizon ...What worries me is what would have to happen to cause rampant inflation ..
  • This is stupid, the government cannot replace worldwide funding that the banks previously relyed on nor should it try

Their belief is capitalism is a bridled horse waiting to be whipped into action but it is more akin to a raging bull charging every red flag.
The government needs to calm the trouble not paint the town red

    Hard to choose.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.

constant barbeques appeal to me. And nice weather.

I bet you dont have to worry in Oz about whether to put the heating on as to whether you can afford the bill.

  • I read about a tourist camping out in Australia who was eaten whole, the only thing they found was the wedding ring

Under one option, a “bad bank” would be created to dispose of bad debts. The Treasury would take bad loans off the hands of troubled banks, perhaps swapping them for government bonds. The toxic assets, blamed for poisoning the financial system, would be parked in a state vehicle or “bad bank” that would manage them and attempt to dispose of them while “detoxifying” the main-stream banking system.
The original purpose of the tarp scheme yet I read paulson had realised this idea was obviously wrong.
Still not sure why, its how ubs was bailed out
