Defunct credit cards

in Credit cards
Hi all,
I do apologise if this seems like a "blonde" question but does anyone know if there is a way to find out if any of my old credit cards are still active ?
I should say that I dont know which companies they would be with etc as I have only had one card for the last few years.
Do they automatically "shut down" if not used for years ?
I'm sure someone will tell me to check my credit report but I did the free thing a couple of years ago and am loath to pay to view it now (will if I have to but thinking someone may know a way round it.)
I dont want the credit cards and am pretty confident I have closed all that I have had over the years but MSE has a lovely habit of scaring the heck out of you.
Cheers in advance.
Kate

Do you still have these credit cards? If so, you could just given them a call and ask. They other way is to pay £2 per agency's credit report and it will show if the account is settled or now. Credit cards only show as settled if you personally request the closure of the account.0

Hi and cheers for the speedy reply - I am pretty confident that any cards I have had had been requested to be closed but I think we all know how reliable credit card companies are - I dont know who the cards were with etc am more concerned that there may be cards out there in my name that I dont know about.0

If you requested closure and would like to make sure they show as settled on your credit file you would have to pay the £2 per agency to confirm this on your report0

Cheers again - I've activated my experian account but there system is down so it will have to wait for another day........0
