Buyer contacts direct asking for buy it now

Hi,

I apologise if this has been mentioned before but couldnt find it..

I just posted a new item for sale, and this buyer messages me and asks if i would accept £3.50 included postage... I'm like errr no ive done this as an auction please bid as I'm not prepared to close it early, cancel a bid and then do a buy it now... thats like loads in fees and prob a breach or 2!

I was intrigued with this buyer their feedback is over 4000 but set to private!

So I was wondering has any1 else come across this before if so what would you do!?
I like to think I can help but its for discussion purposes only so if I get it wrong please feel free to correct me.

Could mean that they're using this account for buying only.

Just ignore it. Unless, of course, the offer is favourable to you in all respects. The problem is that they can back out of the sale & you won't be able to do anything, except hope someone else buys it.

If this buyer bothers you again & you're not in a position to comply with their wishes, report them to eBay. G

Yeah could be right using it as buying only!

Yeah not really be in my favour as the fees could total like £1.50 at estimation cancelling the 1st one and set up new one as buy it now!

  • You used to be able to get the buyer to place a bid, then use the 'end auction & sell to highest bidder' function, then amend the differerence on the invoice. That way you don't have to set up a new listing & run the risk of them changing their mind. Not 100% if you can still do thid but worth bearing in mind?

I have asked and had this same question asked to me in ebay auctions. I thought it was only possible to do anything if no one was bidding- its not something I have done if someone has bidded anyway.

Its easy to end the auction early, then email them the amount they need to pay with your email address registered with paypal, when they pay, you know you can post.

If you are unsure, maybe ask them to pay first and then you will end the auction- that way, no fees paid twice if they change their mind before paying and then you end up having to relist and repay.

But having said that, you said the to-be-buyer has a private account, and that would make me worry, had they not had a private account and had a fair amout of posative feedback I would have said yes, go for it, but as they have what could be no feedback, or even worse, loads of negatives, they would be better stearing clear of.

If the buyer is genuine, ask them to bid if someone else already has- thats what I do, suggest they may get the item for even less then they are offering- sometimes makes them bid!
