Keep losing adsl internet connection

I keep losing my adsl internet connection. On my linksys router the wired and wireless networking is ok, and the dsl light shows green, but the internet light goes out; on one occasion it shone red.
Switching off for 30 seconds sometimes cures things, but not always.
My ISP is not showing any downtime.
I have looked at the support pages on the linksys website and all my settings appear to be ok.
I suspect that the problem could be external, but don't know what can be done.
Does anybody have any suggestions?

have you tried swapping out your ADSL splitters for spare ones, or remove the front from the main BT socket

and plug a splitter into the test socket behind on the right
this will eliminate any internal wiring in the house , thats where the BT pair connectEx forum ambassador

internal wiring..
where in the house is the router plugged in? Is it the main BT phone socket, where your line comes in the house?
if it isn't... try plugging it in there.
Secondly. If it is, and you're still having issues, you could have a faulty line filter somewhere in the house, try unplugging all phones and filters, and only having your internet plugged in and see if it does happen
it could be something along the lines of a poor signal, so the router keeps dropping it to re sync... you could replace the faceplate on your main bt socket, with a faceplate filter. This means that all the phone sockets in the house are filtered already, and on the main socket, you can plug your router into.. i did this, and have had a faultless connection in over 3 years now!

Before you do the above check your router statistics, look at the download speed and download noise margin.
Then when trying the above recheck them, you are looking for a higher noise margin (bigger number), and faster download sync speed.
If you achieve this then as they say you have internal wiring problems. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
My router is connected to a socket in the back bedroom near my main pc.
But I think that collectively, you have hit the nail on the head.
I have just checked things and the downstream margin has altered from 1 db to 2147483646 db.
For the record:
Downsteam rate 3808 Kbps
Upstream rate 448 Kbps
Downstream margin 1 db
Upstream margin 18 db
Downstream line attenuation 44
Upstream line attenuation 240 -
The second figure looks like a software bug!
Its likely that you are having problems due to your extension wiring, if its impracticable to move the router to the master socket then removing the bell wire(pin 3) from the extension should improve things. Try following this link.

I shall check out the wiring. I might even fit faceplate filters.
Incidentally or coincidentally, the extension phone in the main bedroom stopped working. It was only bought in September so we have replaced it.0 -
