I have an old 2005 Packard Bell EasyNote Laptop there has been a Software Glitch after someone switched off the PC while installing Comodo Internet Security Freeware
https://www.comodo.com
it will no longer connect to the Internet I contacted Comodo Support I got
http://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3/comprehensive_instructions_for_completely_removing_comodo_firewall_pro_3_info-t17220.0.html
that involves messing with the registry or C Format and reinstall.
Its on Windows XP Home Edition but I have lost the Windows XP installation disc.
What Options are open to me can I save this Laptop ?
Thanks,
Samantha

1. Borrow disk from somewhere
2. Download iso of disk, and burn (not sure if this is allowed or not, technically if you have a legal CD key i would have thought it's ok)
3. System restore. Restore XP to a previous working state. Coudl work if it wasnt too long ago.0 -

System Restore does Not seem to be working does not mean C Format if I was to install Linux Operating System is this compatibile to a lot of windows programs out there.
Is it difficult to use?
Thanks,

With Linux there are 3 options:-
1) Some programs, such as Firefox and VLC, have versions for Windows, Linux and Mac. Just install the correct version.
2) Some Windows programs will run on Linux using a (sort of) emulator program known as 'WINE'.
3) For most Windows programs there are Linux equivalent programs that are very, very similar.
Is it difficult to use?
When it's up and running Linux is no more difficult to use than Windows (imo). There's just a bit of a learning curve till you get used to it.0 -
just thought id post to see if you got things sorted ?0

Installing linux and using it is not that hard anymore so that is an option.
If you want xp the only difference between the "illegal" copies on the internet and a bought disc is the licence. You have a valid licence (read key) so you can download a naughty copy and it will be legit because you have a licence.0
