  • I'm way unsure about how much they cost to run, and to buy I guess it would pay to buy the most energy efficient

and I didn't mean we don't drink at all - just not that much, but when baby 3 becomes mobile I'll definitely be in need of a glass or two!! - poor thing and it's not even born yet!!

We are talking essential as in those things which make your life easier, not to sustain life.

How do we consider what is essential? I suppose you could look at how many of the population own one, thus the more people in the UK who own/run an appliance/service the more 'essential' to your quality of life.

A TV? Is that essential? Im sure well over 90% of the population own one, never mind two or more. Even to poorest in society usually own a TV. It costs money to run and its taxed yearly by the government in the form of a BBC licence, yet most of us have one.

Essential products are purely arbitrary, down to lifestyle and circumstance.
    Definitions of essential
    1. [adj] - being or relating to or containing the essence of a plant etc
    2. [adj] - absolutely necessary
    3. [adj] - absolutely required and not to be used up or sacrificed
    4. [adj] - basic and fundamental

Fire fox, what do you not understand? If we lived in a totalitarian regime, which operated a 'thought' police, maybe just maybe they could tell me what I believe is essential to my quality of life. You can quote from every dictionary you want, doesn't change my opinion one iota.

I believe a tumble dry as an essential electrical item. Could I live without one? Yes. Do I wish to live without one? No, as its 'essential' to my quality of life. So if you really want to be pedantic, put me down as a number 1 on the list you so kindly provided, as I like plants.

We are suggesting you make better use of the English language, not trying to prevent you worshipping your tumble dryer.
