How often to bath a puppy?

Hi all,
I've a 11week CKCS puppy and I was wondering how often should I bath him? My uncle once had a Cocker Spaniel and he always seemed to reek really badly! Bailey seems to be getting pretty stinky!
Many thanks in advance

Hi Hon,
I have 4 dogs none of whom ever have an "official" bath (rolling in fox scat excluded!!). Its recommended that you dont bath them more than every six months as it strips their fur of their natural oils. Dogs tend to have their own smells which you get used to - well you never really get used to the soggy dog smell but thats the price of being a woof lover.0 -

Hi
I'd also say as rarely as possible:D unless of course they have rolled in something stinky. If you groom regularly, check teeth and anal glands(yuck job) he shouldn't smell any worse than the average dog.
Bad teeth and infected anal glands are the normal cause of stinky dogs.....and of course fox, pig, horse and cow poo ( on really top occasions they might find something dead and rotting to roll in, really lovely when they come back with maggots in their fur:eek: ) In those circs mine are hosed outside usually with washing up liquid because it's nearer the back door than shampoo!0 -
You very quickly get used to them - you only notice it really when you come back from hols etc - its a smell you get to love - I promise !!!
What colour CKCS have you got - my very first two dogs were a blenheim and tri colour - they are absolutely fantastic dogs - we've graduated on to collies and sprollies now but would defo have another one in the future..0 -
A wee pup dont need bathing, get some wet wipes and clean his belly (esp around the boy bits) mop around his mouth and wipe around the ears.
Puppies stink - fact of life but they soon either grow out or into it
Get him used to being handled and brushed daily - a brush is the best way to "clean" a dog - save the baths for fox poo and haircut days 0 -

He's a tri-colour! Such a sweetie, but really naughty sometimes! I shall have to take another pic of him, we've had him 3 weeks and he looks nothing like what he was 3 weeks ago! I swear he gets bigger everyday! As he's my first dog me OH and I decided to start off small and work our way upto a GSD or an Akita eventually! - Need bigger house first tho!0 -
i love these dogs, have 3 now but had 6 in all. Each one was bathed differently.I tend to bath them before my friends daughter clips them for me,so approx 3 times year, but i do bathe one more often as he loves it!TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0

You're better off regularly changing and washing his bedding as it tends to 'hold' any smell they have. My pup is starting to smell sweeter these days, although in the early days she did need a bath or two as she was exceptionally pongy! Once summer comes, she'll probably get a hose down, but pups/dogs shouldn't really be bathed more than once every three months, if you find it's necessary to do so.0
