Charge for rubbish removal?

Options
I recently moved into my new home! (yey me)

Only to find the garage is full of the previous owners rubbish!

He has tried to arrange for someone to collect it but failed. So i said i would get someone to clear it out and charge him for it. Hes agreed.

Now, my solicitor has said, i could just do it and charge him. Making a pretty penny. But i dont know what this kind of thing would cost!

I reckon its half a garage full (stuff on eves as well) might take a morning, espically as i would need to dump it etc.

I was thinking £150, is this too steep?

I suppose it depends on where you live?

Our local council would come and do this for you and charge about £50 - £60.

Why dont you see if your local council would quote you and then add a bit more on for profit if you dont want to do it? We only found out recently that they do this and its so much cheaper than getting anyone else to do it or hiring a skip.
Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...

    live in oxfordshire.

I wouldnt of thought of the council.

I cant find any local companies who will do it...but assuming i done it my self, i would need a small van/skip thats going to cost £60 plus my time (a day?)

I think i will put £150 forward, if the guys accepts, fantastic.

PS. i used to have a cuddly toy duck called quackers when i was 4

    £150 sounds fine to me.
Will you be needing a skip or is it just a few trips to the tip?

I mean a morning works 4 hours @ £30 per hour + petrol etc. Soon adds up.
    And I imagine its a w/end.

As long as its not too outrageous they will agree unless they'll come back and do it for themselves which I can't see happening.

    HTH...

In Manchester the council take it away for free as long as you ring and set a date for it - might be worth ringing them.... wouldn't necessarily stop you charging him for the time you've taken to arrange it all either! ;)

  • ... and like the solicitors would - charge a fortune for the calls you make too :D

you could place an advert on freecycle and say its fall ree to a good home, etc and then it will be cleared for free. Someones junk and all that.

    Just an idea :)

i know someone with a van, would take a day. Split the money, not mad for £75/each.

If he's accepted £150, why not get a skip for £55-£100 depending on size.

How you gonna get him to pay?

When I moved in here the previous owner left all kinds of **** all over the place. Planks of wood, bags of cement and piles of bricks in the bedrooms, old furniture in the garden and all sorts. The garden and front bedroom were full of it. The council came and collected the lot for £35.

I'll be interested as to how you are going to make him pay though.
