DVD to MP3/MP4 - HOW?!?!?

Hello,

Can anyone help me? I'd LIKE to convert some DVD's into MP3 or MP4 format to use with my ipod or mobile phone. Had a look at some software available on net but also lots of scary 'warnings' about this kind of thing. Does anyone have any good/bad experience that they wouldn't mind sharing????

Thanks.

You'd get the best quality encoding videos with H.264 AVC aparently. I too am interested in the best program for the job, i have PM'd somebody on another forum about this and am awaiting a reply. I jsut got an iPod classic 120gb, so i'd like to convert some of the movies i have. :j

I have lots of .avi video's, which i presume would be easier to convert, then converting dvd files.

For simplicity, use Magic DVD Ripper

It's not free, but you can use it fully functional five times before purchasing a licence.

There are varied free options, but they require a little more knowledge.

Doesn't really offer a guide to the OP's question. Though I too use MediaCoder on occasion.

Brillient mate. I'm downloading the iPhone/ipodTouch version now. I have a few movies on my iPod classic which have been encoded at iPod touch resolution, so all should be good

So they want software to actually rip the dvd?
or software to convert the ripped files to Mp3/Mp4 format?

DVDShrink to rip the DVD, then to convert the DVDfiles use WinAVI convert to AVI or WMV. Then something like MediaCoder to convert .avi to iPod.
    or
DVDShrink to rip the DVD, then to convert the DVDfiles use WinAVI iPod edition to convert dvd files to iPod.

I just realised WinAVI isn't freeware. DVD Shrink is freeware.
So DVD disk > DVD shink > MediaCoder ipod edition > iPod sounds good, unless MediaCoder cannot handle raw dvd files.

    EDIT:
I just converted family guy blue harvest to ipod format using MediaCoder and put it on my ipod and it looks great :)
