as far as I know you cannot get paid a salary and be on SMP or Ma.
You will still get SMP but at a slightly reduced rate, if you phone your local council tht pay you and they will be able to tell you how much. You have to take maternity leave from the day the baby is born at the latest. You will still earn holidays while on maternity and this should be paid as a lump sum at the end of the maternity leave. Also, from April once you are 25wks or over you will get £190 lump sum (pregnancy health grant) that is non income dependent.

I am in a similar situation, but on training, baby is due august and contract runs out end august. SMP is less than normal pay so hoping I get what im owed as a lump sum but waiting for council to get back to me!

yes but the money she would be getting paid is not for work she is doing whilst on maternity - its for work already done BEFORE maternity leave so surely they cannot take this off her - surely she's entitled to both, its just a matter of how and when shes paid. phone ACAS they advised me re maternity leave and were very helpful.

ACAS stands for Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service. ACAS is an organisation devoted to preventing and resolving employment disputes

Some companies will top up your SMP. It's just like some companies will give you full sick pay, but you're only entitled to SSP.

Without checking, I'm pretty certain you've got to be employed by a company for a year before your entitled to anything other than Statutory Maternity Allowance. Have you checked with your HR/Personnel because they should need a copy of your MAT B1 to be aware of when you're due anyway?
