My New Year's Resolution

Hi

Happy New Year to Everyone on these boards.

Some animals are not having such a happy time at the moment.
I know this may not be the best place to post this but I would like to help out the animals as much as possible.

I am a member of the forum on https://www.rescuehelpersunite.co.uk, this is a site full of people that spend most of their time saving animals from death row, abuse and neglect or just old fashioned "Not cute enough anymore".

I would just like to highlight their plight, I have just adopted an American bulldog named Winston from a rescue who uses RHU and I am hoping to start fostering as I don't have the funds at the moment to donate, but when I do I will donate as much as I can as it can cost as little as £4 a night to shelter a dog and keep it from being put to sleep.

I have just arranged a homecheck for my mum as she wants to start fostering but only cats at the moment as that is all she can cope with but every little helps.

Sorry if I have rambled on but this means a lot to me and I just want to spread the word to see if anyone else would like to help out.

Thank you for reading this.

P.S this is the new addition Winston

Awww he's lovely! I just took on a rescue dog 4 weeks ago so can't foster or take on any more, but i'm going to sponsor the £4 a night kennels! We have a thread about their raffle/auction too. I love American Bulldogs but don't have the room or money for more & mine hates other dogs right now, hopefully I can get her used to them in a safe environment!
  • Good work :D

It makes me so sad when I go past a pet shop and see all the animals for sale, because I know how many are already stuck in rescues waiting for a home, and it just adds to the problem. :( I'm hoping to atart volunteering for a rescue when i move hosue but don't live close enough at the moment.

    You dog is lovely :)

  • hi I am on rescue helpers unite too, and I posted a thread about it on here a while ago!!

Just to remind people - you can help by transporting, fostering or home checking! Plus its a good website, with animal and general chat sections!

    Winston looks pretty cool!
  • I was sad today when I went to P@H to pick up my kitty & puppy's usual food and the rest of the stuff I usually end up spending on when I go there!

I was sad because in the 15 minutes I was there, I saw two 'fashionably' dressed ladies (one with young teen kids) carrying very young puppies. I just know they were Xmas presents. I so hope that they were given to someone who expected them and knows what it means. I hope they won't be given away to rescues when they grow out of the fluffy cuddly 'cute' stage :(

(They all stay cute, regardless of their age, surely?! That's what I reckon, anyway :) )

    aaawwwwwwww hes gorgeous.

My local rescue has two american bulldogs in at the minute (they are there because their owner is emigrating) and i would love to have both of them if my jack would get on with them but my flat just simply is not big enough for 3 dogs, 2 kids and me and bf.  can you imagine!

I wanted to get hold of the rescue i had my dog from (same place the bulldogs are) and see if they need anything - I know donations are always useful but i was thinking of watching freecycle and seeing about donation blankets/bed etc for them or even buying lots of toys and donating them so each dog has its own comforter whilst its in kennels. Im hoping too if i do my CBT this year that I will be able to help out with dog walking too as although its local it isnt within walking distance in the slightest.

I used to volunteer at a rescue and we would be inundadted with pets after christmas, and with rabbits in autumn - i.e. six months after they had been bought as babies for easter, when their hormones kicked in and they became difficult to handle :(

nice to know it wasn't just my bunny who turned evil after 6 months - she was the nicest little thing and then just went to a demon over night - i never got rid of her though - just learnt how to catch her without being shredded to pieces.

    she was lovely. RIP Theo.

    well done,
my mopther and i have, 13 cats. 11 are rescues, they include a cat who looks like relatives were wildcat, she cant meow just chirrups etc,
three ferals, two which we were just looking after for a weekend, and couldnt put them out as it was october, n they were so young, (very cuddly n purry)
the brother of the two, who stalked me for several months, nthen i threw some chicken, n he came over n i picked him up, when i left him he came to window, n JUMPED IN, he wouldnt go back out for weeks, n is always happy to see me,
n my babies, who were what i went for in first place,
    n the rest lol,
and we feed the brother of the ferals who was only caught n neutered recently, and lives outside, and the mother.
and we also feed a load of ferals in town, 7 miles away, once a week, n an extra day every other week,
THANKS to everyone who posts competitions. you are all :A.

We got our cat and dog from rescue centres, wish I could do more for them as some rescues are really struggling, I do continuously knit blankets for them!
