South Yorks Police Speeding Fine

OH has recently received NOIP from SY police - he was caught on speed camera at 42 in a 30 on a deserted dual carriage way.
SYP state that for minor breaches they may choose to send you on a speed awareness course rather than a fine.
What do you think the chances are that he will get this option - is 42 in a 30 "minor"? Has anyone had this option from SYP?

I think there is a defined limit on qualification for that - based on by how much the limit was exceeded.

No chance at all. Minor breaches are 33 in a 30. Even 36 in a 30 isn't going to get you an offer with most forces. The fact it was a deserted dual carriageway is completely irrelevent. 42 actual speed could be 46 indicated on the speedo.
Don't forget to inform the insurance company of the new points when he gets them otherwise they can void your insurance in the event of a claim.Conor

Most forces follow the ACPO guidelines for this, which are as follows:aitch-aitch wrote: »OH has recently received NOIP from SY police - he was caught on speed camera at 42 in a 30 on a deserted dual carriage way.

Speed Limit + 10% + 2 mph = threshold for a ticket
Speed Limit + 10% + 6 mph = fixed penalty only
So a speed awareness course would normally only be offered for speeds between 35 and 38 mph. But S Yorks have the discretion to vary that, so send the NIP back and see what they send.
