OS dog shampoo

Hello all, just wondered if anyone had any OS tips for cheap dog shampoo (ie made from household ingredients rather than buying some preferably!)?
Thanks, I'm sure one of you clever people will have an answer:T .

    Hi alisong,

You should get more help with this from the experts on the Pets and Pet care board so I've moved your thread across.

    Hi alisong

I have used baby shampoo in the past and this was recommended by a dog groomer. I guess that is fairly cheap compared to specific dog shampoos from the pet shop - partiuculary if you get an own brand product. They smell sooooo good afterwards too :D

My green cleaning book recommends the following (haven't tried it, so can't comment on its efficiency.)

    450mls/ 3/4 pint of water
    2 teaspoons liquid castile soap
2 tablespoons aloe vera gel (helps to soothe skin irritation)
up to 1 teaspoon vegetable glycerin or vegetable oil.
Put all ingredients in a jar and shake to blend. Wet coat and pour on the shampoo a few tablespoons at a time, lathering as you go, Work shampoo in then rinse thoroughly.

Or to quickly clean pets and remove wet dog odour, sprinkle with baking soda and brush out their fur.

Flea spray - slice up 2 lemons and pour nearly boiling water over them then soak overnight. Strain the liquid and pour into a spray bottle. Spritz the dog liberally and then massage the solution into their coats. Citrus oil kills and repels fleas (so it says!) and can be used to spray the bedding as well..

I have no idea what castile soap is, but I'm guessing any ordinary mild non-scented soap, grated and dissolved will do the trick just as well.
I must say, I quite fancy the idea of a lemon scented pooch wafting round the house - might try that one, even though she hasn't got fleas.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.
