Changing from pre-pay...do I have to go with British Gas??

Hi all,

When we moved into our house there were pre-pay meters for gas and electric. They are quite expensive and I'd like to get them changed over.

The gas is with British Gas. Do I have to go with them if I want to change it over or can I call another supplier and they will just sort the old pre-pay meter out?

Thanks

It depends are British Gas charging you to change the meters? If they are not might be best to get them to do it then switch. If they are charging you switch to another company that will not charge you (or tie you into a contract) to change the meters.

Ah I see...so I guess I should call them and find out if they are going to charge us.

I hate british gas with a passion and even the thought of calling them makes me feel angry! lol.

    Thanks

They most probably are going to charge you, but it may be worth a try. There is a couple of companies that will take your prepayment meters on supply with them and then change them over for free.

I just tried to call them but apparantly their lines are temporarily closed - typical!

How much do you think they will charge?
Also, could you tell me which companies would do it for free?

Thank you very much, you've been very helpful already!
