Installing extra memory - laptop

Options
Hi,

Going to upgrade an Acer 4062 LMI from 256 to 512 of ram from crucial. Do I take out the 256 and replace with 512, or, ' pop in ' another 256 running side by side with the original thus making it 512 of ram ?

Cheers.........

You could put in another 256 on the other side, or 512 and have a total of 768mb. You are better running 2x 256 than 1x 512 because they will run in dual channel mode which is more efficient. However, if you wan't to upgrade in the future it may end up costing you more as you'd have to buy two sticks of of 512mb to get 1GB RAM, intead of just adding another 512RAM to the existing 512mb RAM.
Personally I'd probably get a 512mb ram stick and put it in so you have 768mb of RAM and can easily upgrade to 1GB if you want to in the future, but it depends what your budget is and what you are using the computer for.
