We weren't too keen on dealing with BG after seeing the poor service our landlords got and I also prefer the idea of using local tradesman.
However in a moment of desperation having not keen able to get hold of any plumbers to quote for some work I gave them a call a couple of weeks ago. They didn't turn up for the first appointment (we had to wait in from 12 - 6) but sucker for punishment I called them again.
Someone came to quote today and seemed surprisingly honest - he kept on saying things like "you know we'll be much more expensive than anyone else you might get to quote" and said they charge £72 an hour! He also seemed to think that some parts of the job weren't possible. In fact he took one look at our central heating system and said they couldn't do what I was asking at all until I explained a way of doing it.
Fortunately we've now found 3 local plumbers to quote and they didn't seem to see a problem with getting the job done!
It looks like the Homefix service is probably ok for small simple jobs which they can come out and do quickly but not anything a bit unusual.
