School Expence

 Hi, Could someone please let me know what are the cost of sending a child who will be nearly 3 yr. in a months time to school.I dont have any idea as I have never studied in this country.I had assumed that education after a child is 3 & if put in a pre nursery was free. I have been told that I will have to provide nursery vouchers. Also is state education free , If so from which yr. onwards. If not what are the cost. I would be really grateful if someone would explain the whole system . :o

No you dont neccessarily pay before age of 4 - some state nurserys take children from 3 - phone your local one as you do have to register your child and put them on a waiting list. Your local school will give you more information about this.

If you want to send your child to a private nursery, then you have to pay. The vouchers are there to help save tax on the payments via your employer.

    Hi Kareena,
A registered nursery (either private or school run) will take ur child from the FIRST TERM after your child is 3 and 4 months old FREE (the nursery will get u to sign a form and then they will claim the funds from the local education authority).

Depending on your childs birthday (ie if its before 1st September) it will start full time school in the september of its 5th birthday (ie child born in May 2002 will start FT school on 1st September 2006). This place is funded by the Government in all local public schools. You wll need to obtain a form from your chosen school to request a place (places are NOT guaranteed and you will need to have another two choices as backup). Take the form back to the school and they will send it to the LEA who will contact you in due course.

HTH, so your starting place is with the Nursery you wish your child to attend.

    Love Ali

This may depend on where you live. My daughter is 3 in March, and we will get help with her nursery costs after Easter.(12.5 hours a week paid for), we have to pay the remainder ourselves. This is because she is going for more than 2.5 hours each session.(i get 5 x 2.5 hours free per week)

My daughter could go to a pre-school or school nursery for 5 mornings or 5 afternoons a week for free (after Easter) as long as the session didn't exceed 2.5 hours. She will be in a school nursery from September.

Our LEA admits all children to reception, the September following their 4th birthday. So if you have a child with a Sept birthday they will be 5 around the time they start. If they have an Aug birthday they will start shortly after their 4th birthday.

Our school year runs Sep 1st-Aug 31st, as I'm aware its a calendar year in other countries. This applies to England. The rules for Scotland are different I beleive.
