Annoyed with egg

egg are really starting to annoy me... not only is there website becoming more unreliable, but they've charged me 7p interest on my 0% BT!!

i had a £10 balance on the card, but i made sure this had a payment showing for it on the statement, and was £0 before i initiated the anniversary BT. i left a couple of days between the payment appearing, and starting the BT. total time from sending payment from HSBC was 3 working days. they even agree that it was cleared by the BT date, yet they can't explain why interest was charged.

the guy was going to refund the interest as a gesture of good will, but i got cross at that - it shouldn't be there at all! the thing that got it sorted though was saying this, "well i'm not happy with that, please pay off my credit cards with my savings and return the difference to my own bank". that got things moving! :T

still thing i'll dump egg.

  • I don't understand this!
You phone to question an amount charged - they agree to sort it out - and then you get cross!!
    There's no pleasing some people.
  • All this effort...for 7 pence?

Do mountains and mole-hills mean anything?

You phoned, they offered to refund the interest as goodwill and you still weren't happy with that? What did you want? A full, written apology or perhaps a compensation payment? Fair enough if the interest they had charged was 70 POUNDS and you'd ended up being out of pocket substantially...but 7 p?

I have read this before, but I have to say that I never had any problems with their website. Works fine, and works fast. And Egg Money Manager is fantastic. If I have to log in to my HSBC account, I go to Egg!

Everybody who responds to this by saying "It is the principle, not the money" is lying. It is the money!

I have been getting charged c.£0.80 every month during my 0% BTperiod.

Interest is referred to as merchanting interest bu tI hae nevver bought anything with this card. I have complained to Customer Services and they credited my obvercharged interest. Same thing happended the next month. Told thm I was feed up with it. Now they havehad to diarise to correct the interest charge every month of my 0% promo period. They can't understadn why the interest is being charged (as i have never purchasesd anything).

While £0.80 isn't a lot I'd rather have it in my poocket. The more worring thing is that they don't understand why. Hope nobody else is getting caught out and accepting interest on bogus purchases.

That said egg have been eggcellent every time I have contacted them. Using secure messaging works best for me as you have evidence of the conversation promises and what was said.... but it works both ways.

    Deary me......7p eh?
  • Sorry to contradict you 'Pokerpal' but there is a principal at stake here. The supplier hasn't 'delivered' the goods, but more importantly, the supplier doesn't appear to know why he hasn't 'delivered' the goods and hence, as pointed out by 'dealseeker'?, the same mistake will be made month after month.

  • Was the £10 balance you paid off a left over from the previous month? If so then you would have been caught for the interest for the few days it was on the next month. Having worked for Egg in the credit card call centre this is the omst common reason for unknown interest showing up. Did you pay the £10 off yourself or over the phone? If it was online then you just got caught by one of the vagaries of the system, if you did it over the phone then the person you spoke to should have known this would happen and advise you to pay off a few pence extra, or alternatively change your statement date to tomorrow to force the interest to appear.

sorry if thats a bit too long

I was trying to make a lighthearted joke. For some reason the smilies did not work when I wrote the message. Maybe because I used the 'Quick Response' option instead of the 'Go Advanced' option. I don't know. But that is why I put the little wink icon at the top of my message.

They always say 'gesture of goodwill' - they are like robots. However those words should be what you are wantin to hear because it means that they are going to refund your money - depends I guess on how strongly you value your principles. Do you want the refund or do you want to argue about principles?
