giggles, I was about to log off and just saw your mesage. I applied for my course last Saturday night and it starts on 4 Feb and because I'd started my 10 point course I was able to apply straight away as I'm an existing student. With regards to the funding, complete the form and send it away on Monday - I did that last week and my application is pending, probably due to the fact I don't have a P60 and had to send them a P45.
Go for it, you've nothing to lose by applying, on the other hand I'm struggling like hell to translate what I'm reading in my textbooks into what should be put into the assignment on the 10 point course I'm doing, and I've won writing competitions and had commissions from the Times and the Guardian over the years to write for them (I'm not boasting, I'm just trying to explain that I know how to write!) and I've been driving to tears this evening over my assignment! maybe it's just the course I'm doing, A178 on leonardo da Vinci, I've been into him for years and have read so many books on him, I rather naively thought that I would sail though this course!0 -

If you know how to write and know a lot about your subject you may actually be trying to do this at too high a level. 10 point courses are pretty basic and intended for people who know little about the subject except what they've read in the OU materials. If you bear this in mind you might find that it all falls into place.0 -
Thanks alyth, I'll ring them first thing on monday and see what they can do. The course i'm looking at is Introduction to Health and social care, seems very simular to the courses i have previously taken in childcare and education (although they were years ago) so hopefully it should be a good place to start continuing my learning.
I'm thinking i might have problems with the application for funding, i worked part time for a few months last year (april to september/october) and then i started my own small business in November and still run that working part time. (maybe get my accountant friend to look at the forms when they arrive)
Thanks again and good luck folksLife isn't about waiting for the storm to pass,it's about learning to dance in the rain.0 -

I think that your problems with funding could be to do with the timing. You're normally told that if you need help, you need to apply for it at least a couple of weeks before the registration deadline. Although there may be exceptions to this, if you have an unusual situation like yours, the system may not be able to cope.
I hope that's not the case but it might be as well to be prepared.0 -

I never actually thought of that! It's the referencing part of the assignment that's bothering me, I can do the assignment in my head but when it comes to putting down the quotes and references I'm struggling - I spent hours last night reading about how to do it so I'm feeling a bit happier, onwards and upwards as they say!0 -

Well done! It's pretty straightforward when you get the hang of it and a skill you'll need all the time.0 -
I have literally just printed off my first assignment response and I got 64%!!!!!!! Now that might seem rubbish to those of you who have been studying for years, I am so so pleased with that as I thought I was going to fail it! And the tutor's comments have been fantastic - maybe I'm not so thick after all!0

Congratulations - onwards and upwards!0

The course i'm looking at is due to start in Feb 09, its says applications have closed but places maybe available, how likely do you think it is i could get a place? and would i get funding applications in the that time spam?
You probably know this by now if you rang them Monday, but for the benefit of anyone else reading this thread with the same query, if you apply for a course later than 4 weeks before the registration date deadline, you will be required to pay for your course upfront and claim the finding retrospectively0 -
Thanks Happy girl. I wasn't even given that option when i rang them, was just told point blank that the registration was closed for february courses and to look for another course or register on time next year - gutted it closed on the 8th and i rang on 12th.Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass,it's about learning to dance in the rain.0
