Wasn't sure where to post this:

I have a couple of properties that I let out.

The tenants obviously have my bank details to pay rent in to my account each month, but what is to stop them quoting my bank details and applying for loans, mortgages, etc in my name and having post sent to them at the house they rent from me?

Should I be doing anything about this just in case it happens?

Your bank details are on every cheque you write, every time you hand your debit card over they're most likely on there too. They could, if they wished, apply for loans and such in your name, but then if they used your bank details then you'd get the money anyway, and if they applied for a credit card using your address (and it'd be flagged up if the address was different) then they'd have to go through the rigamarole of intercepting your post to get at it. Let's not even get into the fact they'd need to know your date of birth, previous addresses, full name and title etc to be able to successfully apply for credit in your name anyway.

Really, I wouldn't worry. The possibility is, in any event, remote. If you want peace of mind then, as James says, try the ID theft protection products available. But like I say, no matter.
