Not strictly money-saving - except taxi fares to the hospital. -
The Met Office and NHS have issued a cold weather alert, i.e. "weather conditions pose a significant risk to people's health" for the North-West of England under a pilot scheme they are running.

Though the warning only covers the pilot scheme temperatures in other areas will be lower (oddly enough southern areas look like being colder than the north). Mid-range weather forecasts are showing daytime temperatures barely above zero for the next 7 days and below zero daytime temperatures for the next 7-14 days, then add on the wind chill factor. Night time temperatures in the Midlands could be as low as -10C
There goes the extra £60 for pensioners and others!

This may trigger cold weather allowances (8.50 a week) for those on pension credit. They will be sent automatically to those qualified.Temp needs to be zero or less for 7 straight days.Trying to keep it simple...0
