Hello guys,
I'm off to Hong Kong end July for a couple of days. I want to sightsee while I am there and have tried google and the forum history but am completely bewildered at where to go and how to find info on whats there. I'm not too bothered about shopping, I'd like to see something amazing but not £££ pricey.

Hi,
the peak tram is worth a visit. lovely views on a clear day!!0 -
Hong Kong is fab - Star Ferry is a must when in HK & cheap! A good start to HK is this website: http://www.discoverhongkong.com/uk/ Gives you lots of info & suggested things to do & see.
Agree peak tram is worth a visit - I went up late afternoon & watched HK come to life as the sun set & all the neon lights came on down below. Magical! There is a free lightshow at the Harbour - music & lights on the buildings - free @ 8pm (I think!!) every night. Best viewed from Kowloon side.0 -
I went there in November with friends.
A few of the places we went to were
TBh everywhere we went was amazing with great views
Lantau Island (near the airport) where you can take a cable car to Ngong Ping360 where there is a monestary and a giant buddha statue, really nice and not too expensive
Lan Kwai Fong is where to drink with other westerners, Tsim Tsa Tsui is where to drink with locals!!
Sam Sui Po is the electronics shopping district (worth having a look even if you're not buying) and most definitely visit the "Ladies Market" in Mong Kok because that's an experience in itself although you will get harassed for fake watches etc...!!
You may be able to visit one of the skyscrapers and take a lift to the top (Bank of China building I think) and the building from the Dark Knight is there too.
Victoria Peak is accessible by tram but not sure how much it is but aparently worth it for the views we missed out though:(
There's loads of temples etc... dotted around the city so worth getting yourself a guide
Also nice to visit the 5 star hotel The Peninsula, the first and most expensive hotel in HK (nice view of skyline from the gym on 7th floor and free!!)
Ocean Park is fun but not that cheap, but not too expensive either, you need to get a bus from central HK which you can include inyour ticket.
Everything is within easy distance from the tube system make sure you get their Octopus Card (like londons oyster card) as you will be using it a lot and individual tickets are more expensive. it can also be used to buy goods from 7-11 and some other stores and it is a must!Minds are like parachutes - they only function when open.

Are you really going all that way for a couple of days? By the time you have recovered from your flight, it will be time to come home. Give yourself a week at least -- you really need two weeks to begin to experience all the delights that Hong Kong offers.
Anyway, check out the website of the Tourist Authority: it is all laid out for you. And don't forget that Hong Kong has some of the best wilderness areas for miles around -- the national parks are excellent, as are the islands that make up part of the so-called new territories. I am fond of Lamma, where cars are banned, bars play cool jazz and serve even cooler beer, and the seafood is almost as good as the country walks.0 -
i have been to HK a couple of times on business, and took wife and 6 yr old at october half term.
I agree with everything said so far, we stayed in Holiday Inn golden mile (kowloon side) and did:
disney land (very small but worth the T shirt)
ocean park (far better than DL, AND they have giant pandas!!)
Peak tram is a must - take into account 10 minute walk from star ferry
Star ferry, if they served cold white wine i would still be on there!
wander up/down nathan road, DONT buy electronics - there is a shop just off nathan road called fortress
if your without kids, go to the club on the top floor of peninsular hotel (felix i think) wonderful views
light show is at 8pm and is stunning
visit stanley market, the bus ride is part of the fun!
dont forget temple street night market, but dont pay for anything until youve got them down to 50% of asking price
be brave and go for chinese food - stunning!
would love to be there now - devinately check out tourist information website.
enjoy and send a post card!!

Queues can be quite lengthy when weather is good. Get a taxi up, it goes up the "other" side, then get the tram down.0 -
Yes, definitely make the short trip to Lantau Island to see the Tian Tan Buddha. Supposedly it's the largest seated outdoor Buddha statue in the World.Instigated terrorism the road to dictatorship.0
