E Unknown- Sky deal for new customers only £8.99

Options
Spotted this one yesterday in my local woolies.

Apparently if you buy the sky starter pack at woolies, instead of it being the standard £39.99 it has been reduced to £8.99. (it said chicago pack on the display but I checked with staff and it was all the packs as they all have the same barcode).

For the £8.99 you get the remote control, free box and standard installation and you can choose either one month of the sky world packages (normally £41), or two months of sky starter package (normally £19.50). After this time you are free to change your package , but as usual the minimum subscription is for 12 months.

Has anyone seen a better deal out there for sky, for new customers? (and with this one will they still honour any refer a friend incentives- i believe normally currently £30 for you and £30 for the person who refers you?)

As i am about to move, I wanted to know if I did , during the original 12 months, would they be so good as to install it at the new home, after taking it down from the old one at no extra charge?

No they won't I cancelled my subscription for this very reason after subscribing to full package since sky launched and they wanted to charge me full price to re-install and no amount of bargaining would get them to move, so I cancelled and haven't looked back since and that was five years ago!

They charge ~£40 to install a dish at your new place. I know this as I've recently moved but I wanted to upgrade to sky+ at the same time. As they wouldn't give me the same deal as a new customer, £99 inc vat and installation with no multiroom, I cancelled. The girl said that they had my new address on record now so I won't be eligable for any new customer deals. I have to say I haven't really missed it either as I tend to watch the 5 main channels anyway and I'm not into football. Currently planning to get on the roof to install a new aerial to pick up freeview properly just to give me a few more options.

I am unlucky living in NE Scotland, we dont have channel 5 here yet and no freeview either yet :-(

When i move out of my parents house (asap) sky will be the only option for me other than just having 4 channels, so I will be looking for a cheap deal from them.

Is it worth paying the extra for sky plus or will my video recorder do as good a job?

  • When I moved house I decided to upgrade to Sky+ and took the £99 deal by cancelling my old subscription (in girlfriends name) and taking out Sky+ as a new customer (in my name.) Couldn't find a cheaper way to get Sky+ than this. Even the Sky salesman I spoke to recommended this route.

Just my Opinion, but Sky has always been a Con.
I think I'll stick with Freeview. This is how it should be.
You should not have to pay for the standard channels, only for the reciever/dish itself.

They make so much money from advertising but they still charge people to watch standard broadcasts.

I feel sorry for people who can't get freeview and have no other option when it comes to the 'Big Switch Off' of Terrestrial Television.
  • I've been a Sky customer for 4years now and i have recently moved. I move around quite a lot as we are a military family but we have always been lucky as there's always been dishes already installed at the new quarters.
When i phoned up to change addresses i was quite cheeky and asked them to upgrade me to Sky plus for £99 as i had been a loyal customer who had always had one of the expensive packages and paid via DD for the duration of my Sky custom. I also pointed out that i had paid for the repairs of my sky box when really there hadn't been a lot wrong with it. Anyway, i went on pointing out how great of a customer i was when the lady on the phone caved in and had a word with her manager. After a lot of bartering and threatening to leave, i managed to get Sky plus installed for £139. If they hadn't of done this though, i would of just closed my account and opened up a new one at our new address in my name instead of my hubbys. The way i see it, they can only say no!

  • Do you get a viewing card in the box too then?

Sorry to be thick lol, I've been thinking about getting sky, I live in a flat with a comunal dish so I really only need a box and a viewing card, I can get a box for free from sky and pay the £20 a month for the channels, whats so different about this then??

    Cheers.
