Have you tried a normal pencil eraser. I got marker pen on a wooden table once and this was the only thing that removed it!!

    Thanks everyone for the suggestions.

I have tried fairy liquid on some cotton wool, but that did not work and tippex is not an option:rolleyes::D.

I tried the eraser and surprisingly it got rid of some of the mark:beer: however there is still a mark, just fainter.

Have not got any WD40, Meths and other stuff mentioned, but do have Nail polish remover and a bottle of Smirnoff Vodka:D

I think I should drink the vodka and then attempt to remove it using Nail Polish remover:p

Use nail polish remover with care! It's quite an aggressive solvent on many plastics. As above, test it in small amounts somewhere underneath.

If it does take the surface gloss off, leave it in it's dull state for several days to harden fully before trying to polish it with Brasso or similar - or you'll end up with a horrible mess (as I know from experience...).
  • Nail polish remover is acetone and that doesn't get on well with plastic.

Best nipping down the local hair salon with the lappy and asking if you can blag a squirt of hairspray. They'll think you're mad but it'll do the job.

I'm with fwor, I have a feeling though nail polish remover will remove the pen mark and also dissolve the plastic in the process. Acetone is not really a good solution for cleaning plastics as it dissolve most types of plastics aggressively and the thinish membrane of a touchpad might not be the wisest material to test on.
GOOGLE it before you ask, you'll often save yourself a lot of time. ;)

Hi i'm glad the eraser worked a bit - you can get something from the supermarket by Flash it's a Flash Mark & Stain Eraser and it is chemical free and gets rid of marks on anything. It is like a normal eraser but a million times better if you google it their is reviews on how good it is. I think it should get the last bit off hopefully. Worth a try :D

Just a note. Try your chosen methed on the underside of the laptop, on the battery cover so it can esily be replaced. So if it dulls the plastic then it's not as big of a deal.

that won't work.. as the macbook is made of 2 different plastics.. the base and the lid are one kind, and the inside where the wrist rest is is totally different..

Thanks for the suggestions, I will look into what to try from the suggestions above.

In regards to the Nail Varnish remover I was joking. ;)I used this a few years back on a £1700 laptop and lets just say it removed the mark as well as the finish to the laptop.:(

Wont make the same mistake twice.
