First Credit card

Hi i wish to obtain a CC to use sparingly for things such as car insurance etc i have tried in the past but was refused as i have no credit history i have never had cards in the past or had things on hp etc so the CC people dont know if i am a high risk or not i dont really care what type of card i get as it will always be paid off in full

So my question is where is the best place to apply for a Card that will likely be accepted?

thanks in advance

Capital One Visa card is a good card for building credit. It has a very high APR, which makes it easier to obtain.

Alternatively, if you've been with your bank and are in good standing, you can try them. That is what I did to get my first card years back. High APR again but not a problem if you pay off the balance.

Lastly, there's some cards that you have to pay for but do count towards improving credit history but that's a last resort.

Try your own bank, since they will know more about your financial circumstances.

Have you viewed your credit report?
Are you on the Electoral Roll?

i have never viewed my credit report but since i have never had credit of any sort and i live in a High risk area i say my credit score if i have 1 will be poor

i am not on the electoral role

Sounds like my bank will be my best bet (RBS) since they can see i have never had any bank charges and both mine and OH wages go in to my account they can see a steady income

( would me being a low risk to them affect the decision as my brother who i wouldnt lend a fiver to got a CC no problem because he is unlikly to keep up payments they can make money off him?)
  • I applied for a Lloyds TSB Duo credit card (my first credit card: I turned 18 in October) and got accepted for it with a limit of £1k.

And as I'm a student, I have no income!

Usually we can give you a decision before keying the application through. Next time you're in, just ask if you're eligible for one of the credit cards.
Anything that I do say, is strictly my opinion :p
