Yeah I had moved so many times from then thanks to my ex as I was a student at the time so I haven't received anything to inform me of it, the only thing I had was about three and a half years ago and went to talk to the council and they sent the debt back to him. But he never paid any bills so it's been lumbered with me, and it's not like I can claim it back from him though the courts coz of his IVA. so I've ended up with a debt that isn't mine,
Cool thanks for the info fatbelly and sourcrates
I'm hoping it does coz I can't afford to pay them, but hopefully with my other debt again coz of my ex as we had to move so much I qualify for a DRO I know it's my own fault I was young and stupid enough to believe that he would change and pay the bills he spent his money like water then spent mine. I have to use my inheritance from my grandad to pay my rent as he failed to tell me he hadn't she he had. I got a phone call from the letting agent telling me it's two weeks late.0 -
Wow, I thought a DRO was for a debt you were unlikely to ever be able to pay, what happens with next year's council tax.
I would have thought you could go to Council explain to them that you were not involved in bill at stage of action, but I imagine there were letters you ignored.
I also thought IVA was for debt up to £7k so you could have had that and made a contribution no matter how small, (no point in giving you a debt you can't afford).
They may reject your DRO on the basis that you can afford to service the debt.
David, that's so confused but can I just pick
It's unlikely an IVA would be granted for a debt of 7k, even through a dodgy IVA pusher.
If you meet the criteria for a DRO (see a few posts back), it will be acceptedYeah I had moved so many times from then thanks to my ex as I was a student at the time so I haven't received anything to inform me of it, the only thing I had was about three and a half years ago and went to talk to the council and they sent the debt back to him. The sentence in bold scares me a bit as it sounds like you might have acquired a lump sum (how much?) but I didn't understand the end of it0 -
So that was years go that I got that sorry had screaming baby at the time of writing it, I had to use it should have said0

Not if the intermediary has done there job properly they won't.
They will not submit an application that may fail, for any reason.
There is no guesswork here, if the application is likely to fail, it will not be submitted.
If the OP could service the debts, then a DRO would not of been recommended.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free wannabe, Credit file and ratings, and Bankruptcy and living with it boards. Normally I do my food shopping online can I still do that with a DRO?
I have sent in all my incomings and budget but if my shops over 50 and they shop doesn't take it out straight away will I get into trouble for that, I know it's a stupid question0 -
You can shop how you like. No-one's going to closely monitor you.0

Thank you, I'm thinking they will be constantly looking at my bank0

Only 2 months away and that will be due - it's why some will suggest hanging on until after 1 April before applying for a DRO/Bankruptcy so the years full charge can be included.
CraigI no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -

You have to realise there are thousands of debt relief orders granted each year.
