Thanks for reply longtermplanner, last night I went through all my correspondence from NRAM and it looks like good news! This is the story if you have time to read: took out loan in 2002, split from ex in 2003. Have been making payments (full payments) until Dec 2012 when I defaulted. March 2013 moved to Loss Recoveries process (paying £1 a month). Two weeks later letter asking for repayment proposals balance £9800 approx). Three days later letter "thanks for your payment blah blah". May 2013 letter about redress for loans up to £25,000 saying "however, since then your loan account has been redeemed, meaning this process will now take slightly longer." further down the page "Since your account has redeemed and you are no longer making interest payments each month, the delay will not affect the amount of redress that you are entitled to, if applicable."
May letter thanks for your payment, balance £9800. June letter thanks for your payment £7200.

So, it looks to me as though ex has paid this off in Feb 2013, or it has been scrubbed in Feb 2013. He has probably got the redress, but have no way of knowing for definite. But why am I still paying?

Sorry for long post, almost finished now, am still paying token payments by standing order but obviously this affects the route I am going to take as this debt is approx. 60% of my total debts and now will probably not need the dro, I will probably make token payments instead - at least for now.
I am going to ring StepChange about it today for some advice. Thanks for reading, will post again.

Unless you have a letter from them showing the balance as £0, or they confirm this for you over the phone, I wouldnt just presume the debt is cleared... get it confirmed for sure as Longtermplanner suggested
  • Hi wba31, thanks, I will. 8) (don't know how to do smilies yet,lol)

It's not clear to me what is going on. I'm not sure there is any point in discussing it with StepChange 0 go back to NRAM. There seems to be a small chance that your payments have been made in error, how would that be!!!!
  • Hi, phoned NRAM, none the wiser though, was only interested in going through income and expenditure and full and final settlements. Seemed very cagey about it all, she kept asking me exactly what the letter said about the loan redeeming. She asked me if I wanted to complain, so took some details and am now waiting to hear from them!!!
The thing is I thought all these loans had been passed over to Marlin last October. Checked Noddle - says no loans or mortgages, not even listed with them. It was Loss Recoveries, Debt Management I spoke to. It was passed over to them in early March, have the 8th in mind for some reason, supposed to have been redeemed 28th Feb.
Do you think it would be worth a SAR? Have also sent off for my credit report from Callcredit and Equifax, just to check what's on there.

Hello, I'm new to this thread so I hope you don't mind me posting? My DRO was discharged on 22nd Aug 2012, so nearly two years ago. I decided to find a forum for support now as I've come into some difficulty finding a public liability insurance to become a self employed domestic cleaner (sole trader) whilst I have an insolvency within the past five years. Please let me know if this thread is for people going through the actual DRO process as opposed to the after period. Thank you

You have a very specific question, so it's probably better to start your own thread on this board with a descriptive title - go to http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=159 and there is a +New Thread button in the "boxing glove picture" at the top.
  • Hi, applying for my DRO at the CAB on Monday. Does anyone know how long the process takes from the day I apply and pay my £90?

If I do both of those things on Monday when can I expect to be approved? And when can I expect the DRO order to be available to me?

The DRO is usually approved the day after it is submitted - occasionally it takes an extra day. You appear on the insolvency register the day after that, normally.

If your intermediary already has your Experian report and has entered all your data and is happy with the application and is in work on the day you pay £90 on your barcode ... then there's no reason it can't be submitted that day. Some CAB intermediaries like to do the submissions on a face-to-face basis which might take longer to arrange. I'm happy to do it with a ten-minute phone call. It's accepted that practices vary.

If it's just a first initial chat then the time it can take varies. You have to fill out the budget sheets, gather evidence etc of your debts... Get a paper copy of your credit report, car valuation through parkers and so on. If however you have passed this stage and the appointment is to finalise it and enter it on the system, providing you don't get flagged for further investigation it should only be a few days tops.

The order will come through the post, can't remember how long though after mine was around 4 years ago now
  • Bazzafazza,
Just had my DRO approved-did most of it online with Stepchange-
timescales can vary but i filled out the forms listing all the debts, sent it back and they sent me a copy of my DRO to check within about 4 days...
After this i had to call and confirm all the info was correct & that i'd paid the fee, they submitted it,another four days later i had a letter through saying it'd been approved, although i was told it can take up to ten days.
Hope this helps, and all the best with your application! x
